Scar Camouflage

What is A Scar Camouflage Tattoo?

Scar Camouflage is a procedure of injecting pigment into the dermis for a permanent makeup-like result similar to concealer. By injecting pigment into the scar, you can lighten or darken it to match the natural pigmentation of the skin. Scar camouflage is considered a form of medical permanent makeup that people undergo to treat a scar from an injury, stitch, surgery, burns, and stretch mark.

Longevity of a Scar Camouflage Tattoo

Since Paramedical Tattoo inks are designed to be in the client’s’ body forever, just like a body art tattoo, it is recommended to err on the side of caution for first appointments and when you’re starting out. You can always have your clients come back for a second appointment or touch-up.

The more diluted your pigments were, the less ink that is actually deposited in the skin and the shorter they will last. This means a higher likelihood of a touch-up being required after a few years. As you gain experience and know your pigments well, you will likely use less dilution and fewer touch-ups will be required.

Variables like the person (everybody is unique), their lifestyle (do they tan a lot) and the specific procedure (location of body and type of skin in that area) may result in the need for a touch-up.

Thicker scars may need touching up in time due the ability for scars to push colour out.

How Camouflage Tattooing Came To Be

While stretch marks, scars and pregnancy scars are 100% natural, these imperfections cause insecurity. Men and women continuously look for ways to achieve blemish-free skin.

The growing need for effective scar and stretch mark removal instigated considerable medical advancements in the beauty industry. Nowadays, patients can choose from various special ointments and laser treatment programs.

Most options are effective, but they also pose disadvantages. For instance, beauty cream products take too long to eliminate blemishes, and laser procedure fees would set one back several grand for little improvement.

Since clients want an inexpensive, fast-acting alternative, camouflage tattoos quickly became popular. They cost less than laser treatments and produce instant results. Patients can even return to their daily activities after less than a day’s worth of recovery.

TOUCH- UPS

Camouflage tattoos usually take more than one session as in some cases 2 – 4 sessions are required to achieve the desired results. Final results can be seen after 8 weeks when the skin is properly healed.  You may need to go over the whole scar again, or just smaller sections of it. Although scar camouflage tattoos are permanent, it may fade over time without proper care. In some cases regular touch ups may be required years later to maintain the shape.
